Build with AI helps you modify forms, dashboards, and workflows directly in the designer. Describe the change you need, provide context from the design, and review the result before confirming it.
AI changes require your confirmation and are not automatically published.
Supported Designers
Build with AI is available for the following resources:
Resource | Where you can use Build with AI |
Approval form | Form and workflow designers |
Data List form | List form designer |
Public form | Public form designer |
Dashboard | Dashboard designer |
Scheduled workflow | Workflow designer |
Before You Start
Open the resource you want to modify and enter its designer. Make sure you have permission to edit the resource.
Identify what you want to change. For a targeted adjustment, select the relevant control or workflow node and add it to the conversation.
Step 1: Switch to Build with AI
In the designer, switch to Build with AI to open the AI conversation panel.
Use this panel to describe the changes you want to make to the current form, dashboard, or workflow.
Step 2: Add a Control or Workflow Node to the Conversation
To help AI understand which part of the design you want to modify:
Select the control or workflow node on the canvas.
Choose Add to chat.
Check that the selected item has been added to the conversation as context.
You can then refer to the selected item in your request instead of describing its location.
For example:
Make this field required and update its label to “Supplier Legal Name.”
For a workflow node:
Update this step to send the reminder to the task owner.
Add to chat provides context for your request. Include a clear description of the change you want AI to make.
Step 3: Describe the Required Change
Enter your request in the Build with AI conversation.
A useful request identifies:
What to change: The selected item or relevant part of the design.
The expected result: How it should look or behave.
Any conditions: Business rules or requirements the change must follow.
For example:
Move this field into the Supplier Details section, place it below Contact Person, and make it required.
Or:
Update this approval step so requests with a total amount above 10,000 require Finance approval.
For broader changes, describe the area and intended result clearly:
Arrange the supplier contact fields into two columns and keep the notes field on a separate full-width row.
Review any clarification questions or proposed changes from AI before proceeding.
Step 4: Review and Confirm the AI Changes
Review the changes AI proposes or prepares in the designer.
Check that they match your request and fit the rest of the design.
Design area | What to review |
Form controls | Labels, field settings, placement, and required information |
Form layout | Sections, spacing, alignment, and readability |
Dashboard | Component layout, displayed information, and data configuration |
Workflow | Nodes, connections, conditions, recipients, and action settings |
Related configuration | References to fields, variables, and existing resources |
If the result needs adjustment, explain the issue in the conversation.
For example:
Keep the field in its original section. Only change the label and required setting.
Confirm the AI changes when they meet your requirements.
Step 5: Preview and Test
After confirming the changes, verify the updated design.
For forms and dashboards, use the available preview tools to check the layout and user experience. Where applicable, check how the design appears on different screen sizes.
For workflows, inspect the affected nodes and connections. Test the relevant business scenario using the testing options available for that resource.
For example, if you changed an approval condition, verify that requests meeting the condition follow the intended route.
Step 6: Save and Publish
Use the designer’s normal controls to save your work.
When the resource is ready, follow its publishing or enabling process to make the changes available for use.
Confirming an AI change does not automatically publish it. Complete your review and testing before publishing.
Example Requests
Use the following examples as starting points. Available changes depend on the selected resource and its configuration.
Scenario | Example request |
Update a form field | “Change this label to ‘Contract Renewal Date’ and make the field required.” |
Refine a form layout | “Place the contact name and contact email fields side by side.” |
Adjust a public form | “Move the instructions above the contact information section.” |
Refine a dashboard | “Arrange the summary cards in one row and place the charts below them.” |
Update an approval workflow | “Add a Finance review step after Manager Approval.” |
Refine a scheduled workflow | “Update this reminder step to include the task name and due date.” |
When a request refers to a particular control or node, select it and use Add to chat before submitting the request.
Tips for Better Results
Make Focused Requests
Start with one clear change or a small group of related changes. Review the result before moving on to another part of the design.
Use Add to Chat for Specific Items
Adding a selected control or node gives AI more precise context than requests such as “change the field on the right.”
State Business Rules Clearly
Include the relevant conditions, values, recipients, or timing requirements.
For example:
Send the reminder to the task owner when the task is incomplete and its due date has passed.
Explain What Needs Further Adjustment
If the first result does not meet your requirements, describe the specific issue and the expected correction.
For example:
The section is still too wide. Use a single-column layout for the contact information fields.
Check Related Behavior
A change to a field or workflow node may affect related configuration. Review relevant conditions, expressions, data references, and subsequent steps before publishing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Build with AI on an existing resource?
Yes. Open a supported resource in its designer and switch to Build with AI to begin refining it.
Do I need to select a control or node for every request?
Use Add to chat when your request targets a specific item. For a broader layout or design change, clearly describe the area and the result you want.
Does Add to chat change the selected item?
No. It adds the selected control or workflow node to the conversation as context. Describe the modification you want AI to make.
Can I continue refining the result?
Yes. Continue the conversation with additional instructions, reviewing and confirming the changes as you go.
Does Build with AI automatically publish changes?
No. AI changes require human confirmation. You must then use the normal save, publish, or enable controls for the resource.
How is Build with AI different from Start with AI?
Start with AI helps you create a new application resource by describing your requirements and confirming an Implementation Plan.
Build with AI helps you refine an existing form, dashboard, or workflow inside its designer.
How is Build with AI different from Ask AI?
Ask AI lets you return to the original saved conversation after creating a resource.
Build with AI is available inside supported designers and lets you add selected controls or workflow nodes to the conversation for targeted changes.
